Worked example using the form's default values.
One are is 100 m² (a square 10 metres on a side), and one hectare is 10,000 m², that is 100 ares. These are the units most often used for land area in Poland — in farming and in land dealing.
Building plots are most often from about 6 to 15 ares (600–1,500 m²). A 10-are plot (1,000 m²) is a popular size for a detached house. Agricultural and homestead plots can be far larger and are usually given in hectares.
Since 1 are is 100 m², multiply the price per square metre by 100 to get the price per are. For example, 500 PLN/m² is 50,000 PLN per are. Likewise, the price per hectare is the price per m² times 10,000.
In land registers and cadastres, plot areas are usually given in hectares, ares and square metres (ha a m²). The entry 0.10.00 ha means 0 ha, 10 ares and 0 m², that is 1,000 m². This calculator helps you quickly translate such values into a single unit.
They are the same family of units, differing in scale: a hectare is a hundred times larger than an are. Ares are used for smaller plots, hectares for larger farmland and forest. The calculator shows both units at once.
The result is only as accurate as the figures you enter. For materials we add a waste allowance; for tax and finance we show the simplified model set out in the formula.
Ares and hectares are area units widely used in Poland for plots, farmland and land registers. Converting between square metres, ares and hectares rests on fixed factors: 1 are is 100 m² and 1 hectare is 10,000 m². Knowing these relationships makes it easier to compare property listings and work out prices per unit of area.
